Comfort

Last month was a busy month for us. One of the most exciting parts was celebrating Rose Marie's 3rd birthday! I can't believe that she is already 3 years old!

As I took the time to love, celebrate, and observe my little girl, a single word began to form in my mind. I began to think back on all that her and I have shared together, learned together and taught one another. I realized, that in a word, she is comfort to me. Comfort. She was a comfort the very moment she was placed on me after her birth. She was warm, wonderful to hold and made everything peaceful and right. A few weeks after her birth, when things were a bit difficult, I held her tightly while she slept in my arms and I was comforted by her love and trust in me as a new mother. During my pregnancy with her brother, she was my constant comfort, always checking to make sure I was okay. More than any thing else during that pregnancy, I NEEDED her with me always. I became clingy to her, especially in the end. Recently when I was sick, she "cared" for me as best as she could.

I wonder if each of my children will embody a certain word. Right now Samuel is somewhere between laughter and adventure...I wonder if in the end he will be either one of those.

Happy Birthday, to my little comfort! I love you Rose Marie so very much!

A Dose of Reality

An incident occurred today, that has given me a chance to stop and be so deeply grateful for all that I have in my life, namely my two beautiful children.

Today was our big grocery shopping day. As I was loading up the groceries into the back of the car, Rose was standing close to me holding on to the cart as she has been taught, while Sam was still sitting happily in the cart. We have a rule about holding hands or the cart at all times, especially in the parking lot. As I turned to put a bag in the car, I saw the car behind us and a few parking spaces over begin to back out quickly. I put the bag down and he was not stopping. I remember yelling, "Stop! Stop!" while the car continued to roll and then hearing Rose Marie calling my name. The car had only slightly pushed her and also the cart with Sam in it. The driver, never saw us. He simply stopped rolling and then threw his car forward and left. He NEVER looked in his rear view mirrors. He never saw or heard me trying to get his attention.

Rose Marie is perfectly fine, but it scared her so much to feel the weight of a moving car push her little body against the grocery cart. I am so grateful that her angel was watching out for her. But, I am so angry with that driver! I am so careful with my children in parking lots. She was right there next to me, we were not in the middle of the road. It was simply a matter of the old man never checking and backing out WAY too far. I hope that he will be more careful in the future.

After that, all I wanted to do was hold my babies close. It reminded me how fast a devastating accident could occur that would change our lives forever. Thank you Lord, for reminding me that no matter how crazy things can get, I need to rejoice in the little things. I have my two babies safe and sound, and nothing is better than that! :)

Revenge is so Sweet!

She lays there, sweetly singing a lullaby to her baby doll, while he plays contentedly with a block not far away. He looks up, and sees those long curly locks spread out on the floor and he knows the moment has come. In two stealth, silent, barrel rolls he reaches forward and grabs two fistfuls of those curls.

Screaming ensues, and as I round the corner, he has successfully pinned her to floor by her hair and he...well, he looks up with the biggest smile I have seen yet. He laughs, I laugh, Rose Marie does not laugh. He has waited for this moment for his whole 7 months, and he was basking in his glory. Let the games begin!

Who Needs a Radio?

Yes, we are now known and recognized in the grocery store thanks to a certain person's singing through the store...everytime! For your listening enjoyment:
